Grand Prix Guyader 2016 – Douarnenez

MOD 70s, Ultimes, Dragons and Diam 24s to compete in this year’s Grand Prix Guyader in Douarnanez, France

In pretty Douarnenez, they don’t do things by halves. This normally quiet and peaceful Breton town knows how to put on a serious show when it comes to sailing. Hosting the epic Mini Transat over the last two editions and having just announced the organisation of the single-handed offshore Figaro Béneteau race to the Azores in August, the team at Douarnenez are currently focussing on the biggest event of the year, the Grand Prix Guyader.

A 10-day marathon, the array of competing classes and watersports disciplines is breathtaking. From the mighty MOD 70s and Ultimes to kayaks, SUP and kitesurfing, there are championship events and invariably attempts at new world records. The stately international Dragon class will be competing in force and the atmosphere is delightfully informal, despite the rewards at stake, where some of the sport’s most respected sailors rub shoulders with the youngest and newest hopefuls.

See the official event website: www.grandprixguyader.com for details on the racing programme, fleets and surrounding activities or contact the Société des Régates de Douarnenez douarnenez.regates@wanadoo.fr for more information.
