May Day! May Day! May Day!
On May 1st, following a 3 month re-fit, Mayflower Marina’s restaurant - formerly known as Astra’s and now re-named Jolly Jacks - will once again open its doors onto this amazing waterfront location.
The fully licensed premises are under the new ownership of experienced restaurateurs Sue Robson and Sally Baum. They have a wealth of experience gained from over 30years at the top of their industry, and along with their friendly, outgoing characters it makes them a truly dynamic duo. They can’t wait to start their new adventure in Plymouth.
Sue and husband David are no strangers to Mayflower Marina as they berthed their boat there for a few years. They recently took part in the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers race from Gran Canaria to St. Lucia, with Sally joining them for the first leg to Gran Canaria, so all are accustomed to sailing.
Jolly Jacks is certainly the place to be, with a warm welcoming interior, huge bar, lounge and restaurant area and outside seating too. Along with friendly and attentive staff, it fits the bill as a great meeting place, and not only for the yachting fraternity, everyone will be welcome.
Sally Baum says: “We think Mayflower Marina must be the prettiest marina in Plymouth. If sitting in a wonderful marine location overlooking beautiful yachts, the historic Royal William Yard and the Cornish borders, sipping champagne or drinking real ale whilst anticipating what to eat from a wonderful choice of freshly prepared Devonshire fare and simultaneously soaking up the warm, friendly and fun atmosphere and being spoilt rotten, then Jolly Jacks is the place for you!”
“And you have to come and see our ‘state of the art’ retro espresso machine and experience fresh coffee at its best for yourself! You’ll also find great pastries, cakes, Afternoon Teas and lots of tasty snack items and light meals suitable for all times of the day.”
Plus, Sally will be seen on Saturday and Sunday mornings on the pontoons with a basket bulging with bacon butties. “It’s not just the yachts that need refueling before a weekend’s sailing!” she says.
Fun, food, great times, a great location and two pretty amazing and determined ladies who have a genuine passion for their craft and love of people is what makes the Sally and Sue team a winning combination.
Fate brought these two old friends together again 25 years after they first worked together in Leicestershire, and now they are going to give it their all at Jolly Jacks Bar and Bistro.
Charles Bush, Managing Director of Mayflower Marina said: “We are very pleased to have Sue and Sally at Mayflower Marina. They have a proven track record in the restaurant and bar trade, and are incredibly focused and motivated. Jolly Jacks will add immeasurably to the facilities and social life of the marina.
You’ll find Jolly Jacks open 7 days a week from breakfast to dinner, and remember, you don’t actually have to use the marina to enjoy Sue’s food and Sally’s warm welcome.
Mayflower Marina is easy to get to, it’s at the end of Richmond Walk, and has secure parking. So we look forward to welcoming you from May 1st”
