A summer of smart cruising with Savvy Navvy’s new features

For the TransEurope Marinas network, one of the highlights of boating lies in exploring new destinations and sharing the journey with friends and fellow marina berth-holders. However transiting busy areas and unknown waters requires careful planning and reliable safety nets.

To make cruising safer, and both more comfortable and collaborative, our navigation partner Savvy Navvy has recently introduced two major features: Live Location Sharing and Waves. For member marinas and their cruising residents, these are welcome additions (to that enticing TransEurope berthing discount!) for both social events and independent passages.

Real-Time Coordination for Cruising in Company

There can be nothing quite like a cruising rally or a “cruise in company” event, offering boaters the confidence to try longer passages and expand their cruising range, backed by the practical support of a friendly fleet. Yet, keeping that fleet together when vessels travel at different speeds can be quite the challenge for the rally lead.

Savvy Navvy’s “Live Location Sharing” offers an easy way around this. Boaters can start a tracking session and share a simple link with their cruising group and even the “shore support team” back onshore. Nearby vessels appear as live markers directly on the digital navigation chart, updating every two seconds.

For rally organisers, this removes the need for constant VHF radio check-ins as they can monitor the entire fleet on one screen. For the destination marina, real-time tracking allows dock staff to monitor the incoming fleet’s progress, preparing visitor berths for an easy arrival at the pontoon.

Understanding the sea state before you go

Even the most perfectly planned passage can be made to feel unpleasant by an uncomfortable sea state. Traditional marine forecasts provide raw wave heights, but they don’t explain how those waves will actually feel on the water.

Savvy Navvy’s “Waves” feature addresses this by combining wave height, period, and direction into a simple, colour-coded comfort rating. Cruising sailors know that a 1-metre wave with a short, steep 4-second period (a typical head-sea chop) is far more gruelling than a long, rolling 2-metre swell.

By visually highlighting wave steepness and overall comfort, this feature allows skippers to identify ideal departure windows, helping to reduce passage anxiety, and improving the experience for all on board.
