Emsworth Yacht Harbour

20/11/2016

Emsworth Yacht Harbour (EYH) is a family owned marina adjacent to the picturesque village of Emsworth in Hampshire. It is a ten-minute walk into Emsworth, which has a range of independent shops and restaurants and a large number of pubs! Emsworth has a mainline station and is on the Stagecoach bus route along the South Coast, making it easy to visit the local area by public transport.

The marina is to be found at the northern end of the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Chichester Harbour covers an area of 29 miles² at high water and has 53 miles of largely unspoilt wooded shoreline. The harbour is home to a large number of overwintering birds – 10% of the global population of Brent Geese are believed to overwinter here. There is also a community of 25 – 30 harbour seals. As well as enjoying the harbour from the water, visitors can take advantage of the 60 plus miles of public rights of way and permissive access paths together with the Salterns Way, a 7.5-mile cycle path from Chichester down to East Head.

EYH is tidally restricted with a fixed sill and access approximately two hours each side of high water. The marina was originally a logging pond which was converted into the marina basin in the mid-1960s – last year we celebrated our 50th anniversary. We have more than 200 berthholders with a mixture of yachts and motorboats and an average boat size of 8.3 metres. We are an RYA Active Marina with a well-supported events programme.

We have a dedicated visitor pontoon and a further five berthholder pontoons. As part of our ongoing investment programme, all of these pontoons and electrics have been renewed over the past few years. Shoreside, there is an award winning café, two shipwrights, a marine electrical engineers, diesel engine and outboard specialists, dinghy sales and repair, stainless steel fabricators, a chandlery and the Emsworth School of Navigation.

EYH is also home to the restored oyster boat, Terror, which is looked after by the Friends of Chichester Harbour, an active group of volunteers. They operate trips around the harbour during the summer months. The Friends also form work parties to carry out maintenance and conservation works around the harbour and collectively provided 2,000 hours of volunteer time in 2015/16.

We are very pleased to be able to offer our berthholders the benefits of being part of a wider group. Our customers enjoy sailing within Chichester Harbour and along the coast, with the Isle of Wight and Beaulieu popular destinations.  The more adventurous head cross channel and around the coast of Britain. The opportunity for them to learn about and visit other TransEurope marinas will be very welcome.
