TransEurope Marinas will be participating in the preparation process of a new online course, which is aimed towards more sustainable management in recreational boating and nautical tourism.
The EU-funded Erasmus+ project ENVIROnmental Officer in the NAUTical Tourism Industry (EnviroNaut) has been set up by the European Boating Industry (EBI) together with the German Ocean Foundation, Sea Teach (Spain), National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), the German Marine Federation (BVWW) and Frederick University (Cyprus).
The new qualification corresponds to the first of its kind for the nautical tourism sector and responds to targets set by the European Green Deal and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, helping individuals in the industry to better contribute to environmental marine and coastal protection.
Public participants will be invited to submit ideas in order to complement the existing curricula, ensuring that key topics of interest are covered. Once finalised, the modular course will be free to use and expected to have a duration of some 40+ hours. The qualification will be available to marinas, water sports companies, skipper services, charter companies and nautical schools and other training institutions.
TransEurope Marinas welcomes the course, which will be available in various languages (EN, ES, DE, EL), given significant interest in developing awareness and competencies in this area. Sustainability requirements are profuse and complex, requiring a multidisciplinary and standardised approach and one where international input and collaboration will be very valuable.
