Based in Friesland, the third most populated coastal province in the Netherlands, Jan and Trees Zetzema, together with their daughter Nienke, run a first-class facility.
Decades of dedication to offering a first-class tourist activity in an excellent setting and working hard with the Friesland Tourist Board, contributed to Jachthaven Waterland being awarded Marina of the Year 2016

Jan and Trees Zetzema met each other in 1973 at the sailing school Oer ‘t Hout in the Frisian Grou and now run one of the finest marinas and yacht rental companies in the Netherlands: Jachthaven Waterland and Yacht Charter in Monnickendam, only ten minutes from Amsterdam and directly connected to the Markermeer and the IJsselmeer.
Trees began in 1985 renting Contest yachts with a fleet of 17 yachts boats, becoming a professional charter operator in 1989. In 2002, the couple took a giant step, buying the Monnickendam marina which over the course of 13 years, they upgraded into a marina with 480 berths, technical services, yachts rental, and accommodation. Daughter Nienke is also part of the team together with a team of 10 expert staff.
Yacht rental has expanded to include Dehlers, J / Boats and X-Yachts from 6m to 14.5 m and a PTS 26 powerboat which they promote annually at the Düsseldorf Boat Show together with Friesland Holland Plaza: “72% of our guests come back every year,” they explain proudly. “Our clients have the IJsselmeer, the Frisian lakes, the Wadden Sea and the North Sea as a destination. Our boats are clean and safe and are equipped with all the comforts: besides a complete Villeroy & Boch kitchen, they incorporate the latest Raymarine navigation equipment.”
The port has the following features:
- Berths up to 25 metres
- Playground and sunbathing: there are 2 playgrounds and places to sit either in the sun (under the trees).

- Rental bikes, bike trails to Broek in Waterland, Volendam, Marken
- Sailing school for adults and children
- Restaurant
- Aquatics Shop, gas sales, rigging loft, yacht services
- Motor Service, cranes up to 15 tonnes
- Bus stop at 300m: every half hour bus 315 to Amsterdam Central
- Barbecuing is no problem: barbecue racks to avoid damaging the grass stand on the deck
- Picnic Benches are movable and are scattered around the grounds.

Trees: “With the port card, guests have access to our beautiful toilet block with free showers. The LED lighting and underfloor heating is powered by solar and green power. We pay close attention to sustainability. ”
