Major works are planned for popular TransEurope Marinas member Dunkerque Grand Large as the municipality has recently unveiled an extensive project to add new berths and services to the marina, together with attractive housing, bars, restaurants and walkways to the marina area.

Dunkerque Grand Large is situated right at the heart of TransEurope’s boating epicentre, receiving cruisers from the Netherlands, Belgium and the UK. A popular destination with plenty of historic charm and modern facilities, the marina is just a short walk from the centre of the city.

The expanded availability of berths will increase capacity from 220 to 450, whilst improvements to the yard will enable boats to be hoisted at all tides. The waterfront will also be developed with a range of new hospitality options to visitors and residents to eat and drink with great views of the marina. The canal to the north of the marina will be reinforced and landscaped and lined with new residential buildings, with an ample new terraced walkway connecting the marina to the beach.

Marina manager Julien Boulanger commented :

The Communauté urbaine de Dunkerque has embarked on an ambitious strategy to develop the yachting industry, based on the creation of a new harbour district, ‘La Pointe des Alliés’, with the doubling of the capacity of the Grand Large marina, making it more welcoming and offering new services to boaters, all by spring 2027. For visitors stopping over for a night or a short stay, this will be an opportunity to discover the lively, bustling quayside, as well as to enjoy the completely redeveloped seaside resort of Malo-les-Bains, just a few minutes’ walk from the marina.

Initial works are set to begin this year, with the required dredging due to be carried out by November 2025. The boatyard project is scheduled to take place between January 2026 – April 2027.
