The questionnaire below has been created with a view to formulating best practice recommendations for the industry. In the words of Dr. Emma McKinley: “It is proposed that the Marina 2020 Vision could be recognised as a mechanism through which the wider marina sector could be guided to a sustainable future.”
Despite the study’s limited geographical ambit, the conclusions drawn from this very helpful study will clearly have a much wider application than the Channel region and the resulting recommendations will be available to all involved.

As part of their on-going work on the marina sector through the CAMIS project, the University of Chichester have produced a report highlighting the main drivers influencing the marina industry in the Channel region in a bid to further understanding of the potential role for a Marina 2020 vision. An in-depth literature review was conducted to allow initial identification of the main factors driving change and development within the marina sector.
Through the research, five categories of drivers were identified: social, environmental, economic, technical and political/ legal. Each of these categories has been further broken down into specific areas of changes that are expected to have an impact on how the marina sector will develop and grow. Each driver has the potential to pose significant challenges to the sector but it is hoped that their prior identification will allow the industry to develop a growth strategy that embraces these changes.
The drivers identified will be used to guide an interview phase of data collection, working with marina stakeholders to further develop a roadmap focused on achieving growth and development within the sector. The next phase of the research is a data collection schedule which will involve conducting interviews and questionnaires with marina stakeholders from around the region. Dr Emma McKinley, a researcher from the University of Chichester, says “We are keen to ensure that the final output has been generated through effective engagement with stakeholders and that we produce something that will be useful to the sector. To do this, we need individuals and companies involvement in the project! We have generated an online questionnaire which would be very grateful if people completed”.
The roadmap and interviews will also be used to generate some best practice recommendations which will be made available to interested parties.
