ICOMIA World Marinas Conference - Venice

ICOMIA 2025 World Marinas Conference – Setting a course for sustainability

  • The ICOMIA World Marinas Conference, set to take place in 2025 in Venezia Certosa Marina, has already attracted significant regional funding.
  • Adopting a sustainable approach, the conference will be officially certified by RINA and will embrace ocean science and conservation, environmental education and diversity and accessibility amidst an exciting programme.

TransEurope Marinas welcomes the news that the next ICOMIA World Marinas Conference will be held in a member marina. Venezia Certosa Marina is to be the venue for the 2025 edition, a famously serene retreat in the Venice lagoon. The island lends much to its history as a shipyard and naval base, with a successful marina offering over 400 berths, a boatyard, sailing school and artisanal boatbuilding.

With a rich maritime heritage and strong cultural identity, Venice is a prime host for next ICOMIA World Marinas Conference, set to take place from the 15th – 17th October, 2025. Known as the “Queen of the Sea” and one of the world’s most iconic destinations, it is entirely fitting that this flagship event should take place in a city built on the water.

Having attended 5 World Marina Conferences over recent decades, conference organiser Alberto Sonino is looking forward to building on his experience with an event that both elevates knowledge acquisition and celebrates the cultural and maritime heritage of his native city:

I’m looking to create a really transformative experience that attends to the diverse needs of the industry, strengthens our community, and also offers an exclusive opportunity to see an unconventional side of Venice. Our pre-conference programme will include guided trips around the lesser-known islands, museums and monuments of the lagoon, and a visit to the MOSE flood barrier amongst other surprises.

With environmental concerns carrying such importance, it is essential that a business trip is eminently productive and justifiable, providing maximum value not just for participants, sponsors and exhibitors, but also for the destination.

An early start and proactive management team, headed by Sonino and well-known industry figure Roberto Perocchio, owner of nearby Marina Cavallino and also a member of TransEurope Marinas, has already managed to attract significant funding. This includes strong regional support including the patronage of the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport, the Ministry of Tourism, the Veneto Region and the Municipality of Venice, amongst others.
