SOOP

The Helmholtz innovation platform SOOP – Shaping an Ocean Of Possibilities for science and industry collaboration, together with TransEurope Marinas, have started a pioneering partnership to build a marina-based network for marine observation. The data collected will directly benefit marina managers and improve services for their customers by providing real-time, location-accurate data on water levels, water temperature and other meteorological data.

At the start of the cooperation, pioneer marinas from the TransEurope Marinas network will be equipped with customised sensor technology. Once installed the live data can be viewed by marina managers and users via an intuitive and user-friendly web presentation compatible for mobile phones and tablets.

As a next step, the expansion of the network and the measured parameters is planned. The cooperation between SOOP and TransEurope Marinas represents an important milestone towards the development of a Europe-wide measurement network. This cooperation is associated with the JPI Oceans Joint Action “European Marinas Network and aims to develop a data-based understanding of the socio-ecological conditions in and around European marinas.
