Stepping into a Legacy: Managing Director opportunity at Mayflower Marina

As we sail into the new year, a significant opportunity has emerged within the UK’s South West maritime community. After more than 24 years of dedicated leadership, Managing Director Charles Bush has announced that he will be retiring in January 2027. Sailport PLC, who own and operate Mayflower Marina, have started the recruitment process for his replacement to steer the multi-award-winning marina into the future.

Managing Director Opportunity

Charles, a long-time Certified Marina Manager, leaves big shoes to fill. He started at Camper & Nicholsons Marina in Gosport in 1989 on a marina manager training programme and has spent his entire career in the marina industry. Under his stewardship, Mayflower Marina has flourished as a top-tier, 5 Gold Anchor yacht harbour, celebrated for its family atmosphere and consistent excellence.

Since joining Mayflower Marina in 2002, Charles has become a much respected and well-liked figure within TransEurope Marinas. He generously volunteered his expertise for many years as both Treasurer and the Regional Representative for the UK, contribuing valuable ideas and proposals for the association’s development.

The Search for a Successor

Sailport PLC is now seeking a progressive and experienced Managing Director (Designate) to lead the business into its next chapter.

A Community-Owned Model in the UK’s First National Marine Park

While the role carries the weight of a long-standing legacy, it offers an incredibly exciting future for the successful candidate. The marina is situated within the waters of Plymouth Sound, which now holds the distinction of being the UK’s first National Marine Park. Adding to the appeal is the marina’s rare ownership structure. Sailport PLC is owned by its shareholders, the majority of whom are also berth-holders. Ultimately, this creates a unique environment where the heart of the business is the community it serves, maintaining nearly 400 deep-water berths and a busy boatyard.
