The Port de La Rochelle was created in 1972, recently celebrating its 50th anniversary amidst a calendar-full of comemorative events. Replete with nautical heritage and colourful regattas throughout the year, it is a veritable hive of boating activity.
This is the largest marina in Europe, with a total of 5157 berths spread over an area of 70 hectares. All berths are managed for either annual rental or available for visitors. Berths have electricity, water and wifi access, and the marina offers fuelling and pump-out services. Yard services include hoisting, onshore storage and maintenance. There are good recycling services and the marina is certified both with four Gold Anchors and the French clean marina award. The Port de La Rochelle is home to the popular Grand Pavois boat show, that takes place each year in September.
Marine leisure options abound, from kayaking and diving to local cruising rallies and La Rochelle is also the base for a successful race-training community, with Olympic and offshore racing preparation taking place throughout the year.
La Rochelle’s surrounding sailing area is very well protected by the islands of Aix, Oléron and the island of Ré. Ideal for cruising and sailing competitions, nearby waters offer boaters multiple charming ports for stopovers (Saint Denis d Oléron, Boyardville, Saint Martin de Ré, La Flotte, in particular). The town of La Rochelle is charming, with a host of activities for visitors who can explore the sights via guided bike or themed walking tours.
