Boosting Skills and Knowledge at the IMM Course in Nieuwpoort

IMM course in Nieuwpoort

This year’s Intermediate Marina Management (IMM) course, held in VY Nieuwpoort, Belgium, proved to be a fantastic opportunity for marina professionals in Northern Europe, thanks in part to the support of the TransEurope Marinas training bursary. The course, which is a great example of TransEurope Marinas investing in its members and their teams, provided a chance for cross-border collaboration and upskilling in an area where such training is not often available.

Two individuals who benefited from this year’s bursary endowment were Dominique Van Broekhoven from VY Nieuwpoort and Henk Prinsen, manager at Jachthaven Wetterwille in the Netherlands.

Dominique found the course to be a valuable experience, particularly the opportunity to network with fellow marina managers and share solutions to common challenges. He noted that while some of the course content was familiar, the discussions and exchange of experiences on topics like safety, legislation, and innovation were particularly insightful. He said the course served as a crucial reminder to stay alert to new developments and technologies in the sector.

For Henk, who comes from a marketing background, the IMM course was a “completely new and enriching experience.” He found the sessions on Health & Safety, Environment, and Maritime Law especially relevant and practical. One of the highlights for him was a field trip to both VY Nieuwpoort and Watersportkring Luchtmacht vzw, two marinas in Belgium, which provided a unique look “behind the scenes” and highlighted how marinas with different target audiences can successfully coexist. Mieke Vleugels CMM, managing partner at Jachthaven Wetterwille commented that Henk returned from the course with “a broader perspective, greater enthusiasm, and a wealth of fresh ideas.”

This course not only advanced the professional development of the participants but also strengthened the bonds within the TransEurope Marinas network, demonstrating how this TransEurope Marinas initiative successfully motivates, prepares, and upskills team members.
