IMM course

TransEurope Marinas member VY Nieuwpoort is proud to be hosting the internationally recognised Global Marina Institute (GMI) Intermediate Marina Management (IMM) course from the 19th – 22nd May 2025. This opportunity hopes to attract marina professionals from across Europe to Nieuwpoort, Belgium, for an intensive and highly valuable training experience.

Vlaamse Haven Nieuwpoort is accredited by The Yacht Harbour Association with 5 Gold Anchors and flies the prestigious Blue Flag. One of the largest marinas in Europe, it boasts a vibrant and young community of boaters and watersports enthusiasts.

“We are thrilled to be bringing this renowned course to Nieuwpoort,” described Maarten Desloovere CMM, Marina Manager at VY Nieuwpoort and Chair of TransEurope Marinas. “This is a fantastic opportunity for marina staff who may be ready to take on greater responsibility in their marina, to enhance their skills, expand their networks, and gain practical insights into best practices from around the globe. We recognised a gap in more international training opportunities within our region and are committed to promoting professional growth within the Belgian and Dutch marina community and beyond.”

The IMM course is designed for marina managers and supervisors seeking to advance their careers. It covers a wide range of essential topics, including:

  • Financial management
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Customer service excellence
  • Operational efficiency
  • Strategic planning

Participants will benefit from a dynamic learning environment, featuring expert-led classroom sessions, marina tours, workshops and collaborative project development.

Desloovere adds: “Beyond skills development, GMI courses offer diverse perspectives. It’s a chance to ‘see beyond our coastline’ and learn from the experiences of colleagues from various European countries.”

Nieuwpoort Marina is committed to investing in its staff and the wider marina community. By hosting this course, the marina aims to attract and retain talented professionals, enhance customer service, and promote sustainable marina practices.

“Employee recruitment and retention is currently a major challenge across the marina sector. By providing opportunities for professional development, we aim to demonstrate the value and rewarding nature of a career in marina management. Being active in various international marina associations as well as our own national Federation, we also look forward to raising awareness about these courses at a European level.”

Marinas are encouraged to send their staff to this beneficial training opportunity. The course will not only enhance individual skills but is also expected to contribute to the overall growth and success of their marinas.

TransEurope Marinas members can benefit from the association’s training bursary funds, assisting marinas with investing in their staff’s development.
